• On January 1st, 1993, the National Science Foundation (NSF) assumed responsibility of maintenance, as .com was primarily being used for non-defense interests. NSI continued to maintain the TLD.
• On January 23rd, 1993, the first version the Mosaic browser is released originally developed by Marc Andreessen. This was a milestone because Mosaic supported graphics and worked on Microsoft Windows as opposed to a POSIX based system.
